Discography

Discography is a diagnostic tool that your pain physician or surgeon may order to clarify your diagnosis or to help plan a surgical intervention on your spine. A discogram can confirm the identity of the painful disc and provide a detailed picture of the internal structure of each disc injected. A needle is placed into each disc that is suspected to be painful. Then each needle is injected under pressure with contrast. A detailed record is taken of the patient’s response to each disc that is injected.

Discography, as with most other procedures, is performed in our in-office x-ray suite. Intravenous sedation is offered, but will be limited so that your physician will be able to accurately assess your response to each injection. Your provider will also discuss the risks vs. benefits, potential side effects, and post-procedure instructions.
