Facet Joint Pain

The facet joints are part of the support structure of the spine and are an important part of the motion. Damage to these joints occur from everyday wear and tear, injury to the back or neck, or most commonly as a result of degenerative disc disease. The cartilage that lines these joints gradually wears away leading to bone rubbing on bone.

Management of facet joint pain depends on the severity of the pain. Conservative treatment includes ice, heat, anti-inflammatories, and physical therapy. Other nonsurgical options include facet joint injections and radiofrequency of the nerves that transmit pain from the joints.

Drs. Noles and Hirsch will work with you to first diagnose the source of the pain and then form a comprehensive treatment plan addressing all aspects of your whiplash injury. We take great care to individualize your treatment so that you are given the tools necessary to get the relief you are looking for.
